For these sessions you don't have to book in advance or come every week. Just arrive in time for the start of the session and pay £1.50 each time you come.
Tuesday Night Drama and First Floor Writers
Tuesdays from 23 April to 16 July, 5.00 - 7.00pm
Like drama? Writing? Directing? Why not try our informal weekly sessions, where you can explore a range of new techniques and develop your performance and writing skills. You could even do an Arts Award and this term there's the chance to perform on stage at the Playhouse as part of the 'Open Season' in July.
Friday Night Music
Fridays from 26 April to 19 July, 5.00 - 7.00pm
Come and try our friendly, informalLivin' Vocallysinging group and develop skills in harmonising, improvising, song writing and performance. Everyone is welcome - no experience necessary.
Saturday Sessions
11.00am - 12.30pm (doors open 10.30am)
These fun taster workshops offer something different each week with a mixture of art, drama or music activities each week. If you want to know more about these sessions please get in touch. (All materials and equipment provided).

PROJECTS

Breeze Arts Foundation- Performing Arts
This course is for you if you are 15 to 19 years old and not attending regular education, training or employment. You will learn a range of skills, find out about different jobs in the arts, devise and perform your own drama piece as part of the 'Young Theatre Makers' project at West Yorkshire Playhouse and gain an Arts Award qualification.

Project Hip-Hop - Music
Back by popular demand! TopUKrap and beatbox artist Homecut AKA Andy Brooks.
Whether you already have some skills or want to start from scratch, you will develop a whole range of techniques including writing and performing your own raps, beatboxing, singing and live performance. Chance to perform on the Playhouse stage as part of 'Recipe for Life' in July to be confirmed.

Sherlock: secrets in the shadows - Drama and art
Come and see Sherlock Holmes: The Best Kept Secret at West Yorkshire Playhouse, then spend the next day exploring the play and learning how to turn your stories into drama using shadow puppets.

Exploring The Wild - Physical theatre workshop for boys
Work with First Floor's dynamic young physical theatre company to develop skills in devising and performance and also have a chance to see the new work that they've created.

Voices of a New Generation - Slam poetry
Work with top spoken word artists, hone your skills and become part of the First Floor slam team, ready to battle it out against otherLeedsteams at West Yorkshire Playhouse. We recommend attending the 'Performance poetry' Saturday Session on 27 April as part of this project.

BUZZ @ First Floor - Projects for young people with learning disabilities
BUZZ @ First Floor projects are designed especially for young people aged 14 to 25 with a learning disability. We have support workers in all our sessions but if you require one to one support please bring a Personal Assistant or carer with you. Music Club - Singing and song-writing
Join us for three Saturday afternoon music and singing workshops based around the showSherlock Holmes:The Best Kept Secretat West Yorkshire Playhouse. You will compose songs and music whilst using props and costume from our wonderful Costume Hire Department. You will also see the Relaxed Performance of Sherlock Holmes. This was a very popular activity last year so book early.

Weekend Workshops with optional Bronze Arts Award
On Saturday afternoons you can come along and have a go at different music, drama and art activities. You can also do a Bronze Arts Award qualification and use these workshops to build your portfolio. You don't have to come every week, and you can check the website nearer the time for details about each individual workshop.

Move Your Body - Get to know yourself!
This half-term workshop is for anyone who enjoys drama, moving to music or getting up and singing. Designed to build confidence in moving your body for performing or just for fun and relaxation, suitable for beginners.

First Floor Friendly Faces
Friendly Faces is the advisory group for First Floor. The group is made up of young people who attend First Floor activities. We hold monthly breakfast meetings (with fruit juice and toast for free!) to help decide what projects to do and how we can make First Floor even better.
